What is your favorite band/singer/song?
I really don't have specific favorites. Some I like are Anthem Lights, Britt Nicole, Francesca Battistelli, and Needtobreathe.

What is one thing that sets you apart from other people?
Hmm...I guess one way I'm "different" from some people is that I'm homeschooled. Not that it sets me apart, but it's one way I'm different from some.

Do you knit or crochet?
I knit a scarf once...and I've started and stopped many knitting projects ;) I'm trying to learn to crochet.

What kind of movies do you like?
I'm usually drawn to any movie with a log cabin, an older era, great characters, humor, a good plot, and a happy ending.

When did you start blogging?
I started blogging in May 2011. But most of ya'll have only know me since early September, when I made Chapter Thirteen a public blog.

What inspires you most?
It's hard to pin-point one thing that inspires me. Books, movies, people, blogs, and everyday life all inspire me.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
I've always liked Revelation 22:13. "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End."

Rain, snow, or sunshine?
Sunshine all the way!

What are you favorite books?
I like the Viking Quest series, the Millie Keith A Life of Faith books, Janette Oke's books, and I'm really liking the Anne of Green Gables books that I'm currently reading.

What is your favorite color?
Confession: I've never been able to pick one color I like best and if I do, it'll be changed the next day.

Do you like the Anne of Green Gables movies?
I can't even count how many times I've watched the Anne of Green Gables movies. So yes, I do like them. A lot ;)

What is your favorite meal to cook?
I do more baking than cooking, but when I do I like making the Olive Cheese Bread from the Pioneer Woman's cookbook.

What do you like taking photos of the most?
I'm usually drawn photo journalism.

What is your dream job?
Something that would combine missionary and photographer (remember...dream job ;).

What is your favorite quote?
One of my favorites..."There is no pit so deep, that God's love is not deeper still." -Corrie ten Boom

What are three things you can't live without?
1) Jesus 2) Family 3) Chocolate

What's you favorite day of the week?
There's really not a day of the week I don't like, but I'm partial to Sundays.

What was your favorite memory of being thirteen?
The trip to Colorado and going to Virginia.

Besides Kansas, where would you live?
Prince Edward Island in Canada.

What is your favorite dessert?
My mom's homemade brownies.

What blogs do you like reading?
Under the Sycamore, Pastor's Girl's Ponderings, and Aspire. You can see some more of my favorites here.

What gave you the idea/inspired you to start a blog?
At first when I started Chapter Thirteen it was a place to dump all my photos and keep in touch with family. So that was the original idea. And I'd looked at other's blogs and thought maybe I could try it.

Do you like being homeschooled?
Very much.

What's your new crochet project?
I'm attempting to make a granny square, haha.

How's the driving coming along?
I'm getting ready to read the handbook and going towards getting my permit.

Do you have any new kittens?
Not right now, but we think one of our cats may have some soon :)

awkward and awesome thursday

awkward

-Going to the gym for the first time. (Oh trust me. It was comical.)

-Consistently sleeping through your alarm, ha.

-Trying and failing to use the word sullen in a sentence. "Ok people, it really is a word. It fits better printed in a book than said aloud."

-Fighting auto correct.

-Waving back at someone then realizing they were waving at the person behind you. That totally happened.

-Using sour cream in a recipe for something sweet. Somehow that's not right, but it didn't turn out half bad.

awesome

-Making banana bars for Bible Study snacks.

-A fresh supply of books.

-Sunday mornings.

-This video and all the Messy Monday videos. So, so funny. Made my day.

-Pretty masking tape (here).

-Pictures

(and just for the sake of real life, the dishes...)

Happy Thursday!

my monday through instagram

Well, first of all, I apologize for my little absence there. The dSLR has been sent in and the estimated time for it's being fixed is around six weeks. I die inside. But, it's forcing me to be creative with my posts, which is good :) So here's my Monday through Instagram...

Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday we had no school and a whole day of relaxing stretched ahead of me. First I went to the gym, half asleep, at five o'clock in the morning. An unearthly time for me to me up and out, really. Then a little cereal for breakfast, catching up on my project 365 blog, and reading. Then chores and some more reading. Lunch was a ham sandwich. Then working on some designs and watching movies with Addy. In the evening, my family played Uno and made pretzels.

How was our Monday?

in my room and the giveaway winner

My room is full of diy projects: a clothespin wreath, glitter heart garland, a post-it note/mini doily calendar, an egg carton jewelry organizer, and tissue paper branches. It's full of books, paper, letters, and vintage things. When I wake up in the morning, the sun rises and light filters through my window into my room (given I wake up to my alarm clock; hello theme song). At night the lights strung on my window twinkle while I often read before bed. I really rather like my room.

And last, but not least, the winner of the Hands that Bless giveaway chosen by random.org. Congratulations to Francesca! Please email me with your mailing and email address as soon as possible.

Happy Wednesday!

fourteen as of today

Hey there, I'm Haley. I love Jesus. I live in Kansas. I can't live without photography. My family is fantastic. I'm a dork and I laugh a lot. Chocolate is my weakness. I blog about life. Stripes are my favorite. I like vintage and diy. I have a project 365 blog. Mornings and golden hour and some of my favorite times of day. Hey there, I'm Haley. And I'm fourteen as of today.

With my birthday comes the question...will I change my blog name? I have seriously considered this, but even though I'm starting the "fourteenth chapter" of my life, my blog was originally started when I was thirteen. I think there's some significance in that, so for now, I'll keep it as Chapter Thirteen.

Happy Sunday!

the days are long, but the years are short.

As I look through my old picture files and the archives of my blog, memories of the past year rush in. Memories of summer days, a trip to the zoo, past litters of kittens. Memories of crisp fall days. Memories of Virginia, the three day long road trip, driving through mountains, the experience of living in a new house, going to a new church, and living in a new state for a month. Memories of the worn streets in Colonial Williamsburg, the thick soup, and homemade root beer. The memories of catching crabs, going on a sail boat for the first time, weekend trips to my great-aunt and uncle's. Then the memories of coming back to Kansas. The undeniably cozy feeling of being back at home. And I wonder why it took me so long to get around to writing an end of the year post.

Two thousand eleven was the year I entered the blogging world, turned thirteen, started eighth grade, took a trip to Colorado, learned to bloom where you're planted, and enjoy the simple things. And now the new year is well on its way and another birthday of mine is right around the corner. I now realize one of the great things about keeping up a project 365 blog. So you can look back and remember a part of that day that you wanted to capture, because it's hard to sum up one whole year in just a single post.

All in all, two thousand eleven was a great year. And me and two thousand twelve? We're already fast friends.

p.s. You may notice some changes to my template and sidebar. More clean-cut lines. A little easier on the eye. It was time. I had swapped headers and called it a "new design" for too long. It'll take some getting used to, but I like it :)
