avonlea inspired || #avonleaFW

If you've been hanging around my blog for some amount of time, you've probably heard it rumored that I really like Anne of Green Gables -- the books and the movies! The movies...well, I can't count how many times I've watched them. The books I loved (!!!) and am working on reading through them again. So when Ashley from Bramblewood Fashion announced that she was hosting an Avonlea Fashion Weekend...how could I pass that up? :)

I'm linking up to Modern Avonlea Fashion. Since I have not had a chance to watch the Road to Avonlea series (except the first episode), my outfit was Anne-inspired....

shirt: Old Navy // cardigan: Target // skirt: hand-me-down dress, altered (see here) // tights: Target //
boots: JCPenny // necklace: thrifted // earrings: Target

I've always liked Anne's outfits in the movies. The pieces from this outfit that were directly chosen with Avonlea in mind were my lace/eyelet skirt, the string of pearls, and the boots. :)

Be sure to check out the rest of the Avonlea Fashion Weekend!

polka dots & boots // awkward & awesome

Hi everyone! Today I have last Sunday's outfit and an awkward and awesome to share with you....
Awkward:
•Charlotte playing with toys in her high chair. She drops a plastic ball of the side, then just watches as it rolls across the floor. :) Love that kid.

•People not recongnizing me when I first got my bangs cut. Funny. :)

•Mom: "THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT. Everyone must use chapstick today, all day."

•Not liking sweet tea, until all of a sudden I really really like it and have been craving it for the past three days.

•Nearly every morning one of us looks at Charlotte and says, "I think she grew more hair overnight!" Seriously, though, it's like she wakes up with more hair on her head. :P

•Cleaning my room and bringing at least seven used cups of water or hot chocolate down to the kitchen. O.o

•Playing a game where you have to write down a celebrity, then stick it on someone's head and they have to guess "who they are" by asking yes or no questions. I wrote down Mary Tyler Moore. Apparently not a lot of people knew who that was. :P
Awesome:
•Cheese-less pizza my dad made for me (when going dairy-free). Homemade crust, extra sauce, pepperoni, and green peppers. Yummmm.

•Finding these boots at JCPenny! I've been looking for some for a year+ now, then found pretty much the perfect ones. They're a good dark brown color not too glossy, and not too tall. :)

•Addy making us some Nutella toast while watching an episode of Duck Dynasty.

•Bethany House Publisher review program! I'm loving it and have this month's book review headed your way soon. :)

•Oh-so-good (& dairy free!) hot chocolate made from almond milk, cocoa powder, and a  bit of organic sugar. So thick and rich tasting.

•This LOVELY fall weather we've been having here in Kansas.

•I've updated the favorites page! Go check it out here [x].

lace, pearls, denim, & a maxi skirt

Hey everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty relaxing, yet productive (you can now see the floor in my room! and there's not a pile of dirty laundry in my closet! yay!). Now I'm ready to get some stuff done this week. :)

The outfit I'm showing you all today, is actually from two Sundays ago...because I haven't had a chance to post it until now, and it's only going to get older, right? :P

This is probably my new favorite outfit. This is the shirt I "made" awhile back (link to tutorial below in the outfit details) and my first ever maxi skirt/my favorite one are all combined! It's so comfy and fuss-free. I know sometimes add things to an outfit (like tucking a shirt in or adding a scarf) that I have to mess with or adjust frequently. But not with this outfit! Honestly it was so comfortable and had me thinking, maybe I should wear more outfits like this. ;)

Well, have a lovely day! What are you planning on doing this week?

early autumn

shirt: target?
sweater: hand-me-down
jeans: american eagle
shoes: sperry's

The summer's over, this town is closing.

They're waving people out of the ocean.

We have the feeling like we were floating.

We never noticed where time was going.

//

Do you remember when we first got here?

The days were longer; the nights were hot here.

Now, it's September; the engine's started.

You're empty-handed and heavy-hearted.

John Mayer, On the Way Home

I LOVE AUTUMN. LIKE A LOT. That's all I have to say.

No, really, though. I can never decide which I like better -- spring or fall. When they're here I favor the present one. Something about atumn calls for change and improvement; new ideas and renewed plans. Yet greater than that, it has a rather nostalgic feeling. Also, who doesn't like the warm tones, SWEATERS (!!!), colorful leaves, and cooler weather?

Recently I got my hair cut. Just a trim and BANGS. Nope, I didn't chicken-out...and am glad that I didn't. They're pretty fun and it's a nice little something different. :)

This is the outfit I wore a couple days after the offical first day of fall. We got pumpkin spice lattes (my sister and I in the picture) and took outft pictures by the new wood pile. Also, there's a new design (as you've probably noticed), that is here to stay for a long while -- enjoy!

Life lately has been busyyyyy. But, then again, when exactly is it not busy? ;) My family's weekend was spent at a ministry confrence out of town. Of course school has been happening. And I get the opprotunity of being a second-shooter at a wedding with a good friend this weekend.

Today I'm sharing with you the outfit I wore to church on Sunday. The weather lately has been sort of slowly creeping into the likeness of fall. It's been typically chilly in the morning and evening, but by yesterday afternoon I was regretting the flannel shirt I had put on. ;)

Are you looking forward to fall?

simple things.

The last month of fall rose with the sun this morning. November first. 11/1/11. Yesterday marked the third week of our stay in Virginia so far. To be honest, a first I wasn't so thrilled with the idea of leaving home for awhile. I was loving every minute of life back in Kansas. But life here is lovely too. Sure, it took a little bit of getting adjusted to, yet it's fun experiencing new things.

During first weeks here, the days that past seemed too mundane. I was used to running at a fast pace and having a to-do list stacked to the ceiling. But, here, I've had more time do things like focus on devotions. I'm taking this challenge; memorizing one Bible verse a day. I worked on Philippians 4:13 today.

Sometimes when you're not rushing so fast, you learn to appreciate the little things more. Like eating lunch on the porch, pen-pal letters, new followers, reading a book to Little sis. It makes you even more thankful for things than you were before. I'm also doing this little challenge here. You write down seven things every day that you are thankful for.

Would you like a little glimpse into the seven things I'm thankful for today?

>> family
>> flannel shirts
>> photography
>> hot chocolate
>> friendship bracelets
>> nice weather
>> books

shirt, target // jeans, gap // boots, old navy // leg warmers, target // earrings, cato

I kind of wore leg warmers today. I was kind of excited ;) Today I started reading The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis. See, sometimes  it's the simple things that make life sweet.

What are you thankful for? Happy November!

p.s. like the new design? i've been planning it since the last design. i promise to keep it for all of november ;) also, there's another new button!

Today's impromptu photo shoot...
Brick wall, old building, smiley faces, gingham, perfect lighting -- ya it turned out great.

Ever since we saw those smiley faces, we've been meaning to go take pictures by them. Today we did.

welcome, school.

Today was our first day of school. It's an annual thing that on the first day of school we eat breakfast, then mom takes our "school pictures". Here's a peek...

feelin' like fall.

Sometimes one you can't tell when one season turns into another -- but it literally changed from summer to fall in a day. Saturday had been hot yesterday, then in the evening we opened up the windows and fall rushed straight at us. That's Kansas weather for ya ;)

Sunday morning, before church, I checked the weather (yes, I check the weather, ahem) and I couldn't believe that it was actually going to be in the 70's. Lovely. So, my church outfit was fall-ish.

sweater // hand-me-down from aunt
jean skirt // old navy
gladiators // old navy
necklace // charming charlie's
watch // target
earrings // gift from pen-pal

And there was a cool breeze today too, which explains why in every picture I'm holding the hair out of my face. Oops!

I like going outside better when it's not sweaty and sticky honestly, so yesterday afternoon, camera in hand, I did just that...in cool fall weather.

I stopped by to look at the puppies. We have nine. Oh, dear, yes. There were actually thirteen, but four died the first day. Nine is plenty, though. Trust me. Sorry I don't have a close-up picture...I'll get ya one soon ;)

I love the hay barn door.

I headed over to see the kittens. Checker is pretty photogenic. She sat down and I set the camera on the ground and started snapping "candid" pictures, as in no posing, et cetera. Those are my favorites.

This weekend I made some cookies. More on them coming soon!

Happy Labor Day!
