avonlea inspired || #avonleaFW

If you've been hanging around my blog for some amount of time, you've probably heard it rumored that I really like Anne of Green Gables -- the books and the movies! The movies...well, I can't count how many times I've watched them. The books I loved (!!!) and am working on reading through them again. So when Ashley from Bramblewood Fashion announced that she was hosting an Avonlea Fashion Weekend...how could I pass that up? :)

I'm linking up to Modern Avonlea Fashion. Since I have not had a chance to watch the Road to Avonlea series (except the first episode), my outfit was Anne-inspired....

shirt: Old Navy // cardigan: Target // skirt: hand-me-down dress, altered (see here) // tights: Target //
boots: JCPenny // necklace: thrifted // earrings: Target

I've always liked Anne's outfits in the movies. The pieces from this outfit that were directly chosen with Avonlea in mind were my lace/eyelet skirt, the string of pearls, and the boots. :)

Be sure to check out the rest of the Avonlea Fashion Weekend!

“Look at that sea, girls--all silver and shadow and vision of things not seen. We couldn't enjoy its loveliness any more if we had millions of dollars and ropes of diamonds.”

polka dots & boots // awkward & awesome

Hi everyone! Today I have last Sunday's outfit and an awkward and awesome to share with you....
Awkward:
•Charlotte playing with toys in her high chair. She drops a plastic ball of the side, then just watches as it rolls across the floor. :) Love that kid.

•People not recongnizing me when I first got my bangs cut. Funny. :)

•Mom: "THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT. Everyone must use chapstick today, all day."

•Not liking sweet tea, until all of a sudden I really really like it and have been craving it for the past three days.

•Nearly every morning one of us looks at Charlotte and says, "I think she grew more hair overnight!" Seriously, though, it's like she wakes up with more hair on her head. :P

•Cleaning my room and bringing at least seven used cups of water or hot chocolate down to the kitchen. O.o

•Playing a game where you have to write down a celebrity, then stick it on someone's head and they have to guess "who they are" by asking yes or no questions. I wrote down Mary Tyler Moore. Apparently not a lot of people knew who that was. :P
Awesome:
•Cheese-less pizza my dad made for me (when going dairy-free). Homemade crust, extra sauce, pepperoni, and green peppers. Yummmm.

•Finding these boots at JCPenny! I've been looking for some for a year+ now, then found pretty much the perfect ones. They're a good dark brown color not too glossy, and not too tall. :)

•Addy making us some Nutella toast while watching an episode of Duck Dynasty.

•Bethany House Publisher review program! I'm loving it and have this month's book review headed your way soon. :)

•Oh-so-good (& dairy free!) hot chocolate made from almond milk, cocoa powder, and a  bit of organic sugar. So thick and rich tasting.

•This LOVELY fall weather we've been having here in Kansas.

•I've updated the favorites page! Go check it out here [x].

lace, pearls, denim, & a maxi skirt

Hey everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty relaxing, yet productive (you can now see the floor in my room! and there's not a pile of dirty laundry in my closet! yay!). Now I'm ready to get some stuff done this week. :)

The outfit I'm showing you all today, is actually from two Sundays ago...because I haven't had a chance to post it until now, and it's only going to get older, right? :P

This is probably my new favorite outfit. This is the shirt I "made" awhile back (link to tutorial below in the outfit details) and my first ever maxi skirt/my favorite one are all combined! It's so comfy and fuss-free. I know sometimes add things to an outfit (like tucking a shirt in or adding a scarf) that I have to mess with or adjust frequently. But not with this outfit! Honestly it was so comfortable and had me thinking, maybe I should wear more outfits like this. ;)

Well, have a lovely day! What are you planning on doing this week?

Life lately has been busyyyyy. But, then again, when exactly is it not busy? ;) My family's weekend was spent at a ministry confrence out of town. Of course school has been happening. And I get the opprotunity of being a second-shooter at a wedding with a good friend this weekend.

Today I'm sharing with you the outfit I wore to church on Sunday. The weather lately has been sort of slowly creeping into the likeness of fall. It's been typically chilly in the morning and evening, but by yesterday afternoon I was regretting the flannel shirt I had put on. ;)

Are you looking forward to fall?

xo,
Haley

sister style | stripes and checks

Yellow tank top: Old Navy
Blue tank top: Target
Skirt: Hand-me-down sewn by my aunt
Shoes: Target
Earrings: Gift

Charlotte's dress is from Gap and her bow is from Carter's
Say hello again to my baby sister Charlotte!
On Sunday morning Charlotte and I happened to be matching outfits. (No, this was not planned. ;)) Therefore, outfit pictures together! Different prints, but the same navy and white with a pop of another color.

Pretty much how this outfit went was...I realized I needed to get some more summer-only skirts in before, well, summer-weather is over. I also blogged about this top here. And the yellow and vibrant, but deep blue together looked pleasing to my eye.

Have a lovely Tuesday. xo

...nope, I don't like target at all ;)
Happy September, everyone! With the new school year nearly here and fall quickly approching, I always have new goals and ideas for the upcoming season. Recently I've been thinking about this little ol' blog of mine. I have a sort of new vision for what I want to put here that will hopefully take less time and make posting a little more steady. More structure, something you can count on, and something I can use my time efficently on. So, what will this mean? More outfit posts! Hopefully a recipe, tutorial, or two. And I still plan to continue with the 5 on 5 every month for 2013, as well as the thankful lists, and you'll probably see and awkward & awesome now and then. Mainly, I'm thinking the difference will be the amount of outfit posts. So, this is kind of a trial run and we'll see how it goes. :) Also, enjoy the new design!

On to the post...this is the outfit I wore to church yesterday. A maxi skirt! I borrowed one from my aunt two years ago and went and got the same one just a few days ago. (Actually, I found the tag still on it towards the end of church :P) I'm looking forward to finding different ways to style it for fall and winter.

Happy Labor Day!

when skies are gray

shirt: hand me down, originally american eagle // skirt: old navy // scarf: hand me down // shoes: target

Would you believe me if I told you that it's actually chilly in July? It's no joke. These past few days have been a bit dreary and it rained all day today (hence the outfit photos taken on the porch to stay out of the rain).

This is the outfit I wore to church this morning. I paired two shades of gray together with a bright coral skirt and white sandals.

Today also included...a quick trip to the county fair, watching shows on Netflix, drinking coffee, and eating fresh, homemade chocolate chip cookies. Ahhhh, I kind of like this whole break from the heat of July thing. ;)

awkward

- Getting a serious blister on my finger from trying to open a Gatorade bottle.

- Pushing a cart through the grocery store (we are a two-cart-parade now -- one for groceries, and one for the car seat ;)), I have the one with the empty car seat in it while Dad carries Charlotte through the store. People pass me and look obviously at the cart, "Where's the baby?". (This has happened more than once.)

- That tomorrow is July first. WHERE IS SUMMER GOING.

- How very, very messy my room can get. #keepingitreal

- Trying on what you thought was a cute skirt at Goodwill. It turned out looking like a balloon. Also, those nearly white denim, flare, short pants. Awkward, awkward, awkward.

- Realizing that apparently I have a problem looking at the camera. I just naturally look down or turn my head. ;)

awesome

- Reading a whole book in one day.

- There's a new pizza joint where we go to town for our shopping needs. Pizza at midnight on the way home twice in a row. Ohhhhh yeahhhh. And  I mean it is good pizza.

- How if Charlotte fusses, she likes/calms when you hold her hands.

- A trip to Goodwill. A book I've never read before for 59 cents, a pair of shorts, and a pair of jeans to experiment with cut-offs (will probably be sharing soon).

- That my sister is so willing to take my outfit photos for me. Thank youuu, Addyyyy.

- Planting a little pot of flowers. Some double inpatients (in a peachy color) and a little vine-y plant.

- A nice 80-degree weather weekend.

Some awkward and awesomes from recently. That outfit above is what I wore to church today.
Have a great week! xoxo.

just slightly altered

Right now, I don't have an enormous amount of time for sewing and craft projects, but on Saturday while I was cleaning my room (it needed to happen) and sorting a few winter clothes out of my closet, this dress (above, left) caught my eye. It was a hand-me-down but was a little on the short side. I'd worn it before with leggings, but I really hadn't worn it in a good long while.

I got the idea that if I just took off the tank top part of it, the bottom would be left and would make a nice skirt that I would wear more often. So, I ripped out the seam that held the top and bottom of the dress together, above the waistline, and wha-la! I wore this skirt to church on Sunday. See my outfit below. There was no sewing required and the raw edge tucks nicely into the waistline.
shirt: target // skirt: hand-me-down, altered // belt: thrifted // shoes: target // earrings: old navy
This weekend was a blast, I'd say. On Saturday Dad and Ad ran their first 5k together. We all got up at the crack of dawn and went into town to watch them run. Then we watched a parade and got some carnival food (e.g. funnel cake, snow cone, roasted corn, etc.). Yesterday (Sunday) was church and lunch with family, then swimming and dinner with family. (I got to see all my grandparents in one day!)

How was your weekend? Happy Monday. xo.

6.11.2013

yesterday, today, & lately

shirt & earrings: old navy // skirt & belt: maurices // shoes: target

Today is Tuesday. Yesterday was the last day of Driver's Ed classroom work (I've been going over the last two weeks). Yesterday afternoon it was hot outside and inside. Therefore, today was the first full day that that air conditioning was on. Today was also a nice, lazy morning spent on the porch and a book study this evening.

Other things from lately....

ONE: i got a succulent. It still needs to be put in a flower pot, but for now it's on my window sill looking very photogenic.

TWO: we have kittens on the farm! (Anyone want a cat? ;) There's finally, finally a gray and white one with a pink nose.

THREE: i wore that outfit in the pictures above to church on Sunday and thought I'd share it with you, because I really would like to do more outfit posts.

FOUR: i changed up the blog design a bit. (There's also a few updated pages.)

Happy Tuesday. xo.

hues of easter.

Easter was calm and quiet this year. I woke up just before six in the morning and then came the curling, primping, and the race against time to get out of the house to church for the sunrise service. The afternoon was spent at grandpa's house for lunch and some home videos. At home, I curled up in a chair with a blanket and a book and in the evening we dyed eggs.

How was your Easter?

p.s. thoughts on the new design?
