#1top3days / day 3

Hey you guys! It's the thrid and final day of the 1 button down, 3 ways, 3 days challenge! I've really enjoyed this challenge! It's been fun finding different ways to style this top.

Today I went with jeans and flats, and added a scarf. I looped the scarf around my neck, then tied it to the side. It makes it a lot less fussy, as I don't have to constantly be adjusting it.

#1top3days / day 2

It's the second day of the 1 button down, 3 ways, 3 days challenge! Today is deceivingly sunny, it's actually quite cold. I paired the button down with my maxi skirt, tied the shirt up to give it a different look, and added the coral tank underneath for a pop of color.

Can I just sing the praises of maxi skirts for a second? A solid black one is really a must-have. It's so so versatile! And comfortable! Since it was a bit chilly today and there was a good deal of wind, I wore leggings underneath it.

#1top3days / day 1

At the last-minute I decided to join the 1 button down, 3 ways, 3 days challenge that these lovely people are doing: the Boyer Family Singers, Olivia, Ashley, and Callie. I picked my trusty light blue and white, pinstriped button down for this and am having fun brainstorming different ways to style it.

Today is the second in a row that has been gray, dreary, and foggy weather-wise. So I went with jeans, boots, and a cardigan as it's a bit of a chilly early spring day.

yesterday, today, & lately

shirt & earrings: old navy // skirt & belt: maurices // shoes: target

Today is Tuesday. Yesterday was the last day of Driver's Ed classroom work (I've been going over the last two weeks). Yesterday afternoon it was hot outside and inside. Therefore, today was the first full day that that air conditioning was on. Today was also a nice, lazy morning spent on the porch and a book study this evening.

Other things from lately....

ONE: i got a succulent. It still needs to be put in a flower pot, but for now it's on my window sill looking very photogenic.

TWO: we have kittens on the farm! (Anyone want a cat? ;) There's finally, finally a gray and white one with a pink nose.

THREE: i wore that outfit in the pictures above to church on Sunday and thought I'd share it with you, because I really would like to do more outfit posts.

FOUR: i changed up the blog design a bit. (There's also a few updated pages.)

Happy Tuesday. xo.

denim & lace | tutorial & outift

Yesterday it was 72 degrees outside and today it's supposed to be somewhere around 80 degrees. Though this spring/summer-like weather may not be here for good (yet), I rolled up my jeans for the first time yesterday and slept with the window open last night.

Also, yesterday I refashioned this denim shirt I got at the thrift store, for 25 cents. It was pretty simple and makes the shirt look more spring-y. I put a little tutorial together so you could try it too.... (Go here to see a before picture.)
You will need: A shirt, two patches of lace (I used a lace shirt), scissors, straight pins, a needle and thread.

Note: Getting into this project, I started to think that maybe using the sewing machine would have been a good idea, making it go a little more quickly. But, a needle and thread worked just fine, taking a little more time.

Step one: Lay the patch of lace over the part of the shirt you will be covering, and pin it into place putting the pins inside of where you will be sewing. (The hem you see in the picture is the one from the bottom of the lace shirt.)

Step two: Carefully cut around the pins, so you have the patch that you will be sewing onto the shirt. You will need to trim it enough that you can see where you need to sew, but don't cut it too small, you can always trim off excess later.

Step three: Thread your needle, tying a knot at the end, and stitch all around the lace. Use small stitches, keeping them close together, and putting them as close the the shirt's seam as you can. When done, tie off thread.

Step four: Repeat steps one through three on the other side of the shirt.

Step five: Using your scissors, carefully trim off any extra lace.

You're done!

awkward and awesome thursday, v. iv

denim top: thrifted, shirt: gap, jeans: aeropostale, rubber boots: walmart, necklace: gift, etsy

AWKWARD

-Mom returning some things in the check out line, and me standing behind her with the things we're going to purchase. The employees ask me if I would like to move to a different register to check out...twice. "No, I'm with her. But, thank you."

-Going to check for eggs in the coop another time, and when I walk in the door, our dog comes through the chicken door. Ohhhh, so, that's where the eggs have been going....

-And speaking of chickens, when the chickens are already on the roost and you need to check the nests for eggs. Scary.

-Tripping backward over the legs of a coat rack.

-Saying to Mom, "Some brownies sound really good right now." She tells me where I can find a brownie mix -- under the passenger seat in the car.

-Taking a walk, getting halfway down the road -- and realizing your cat followed you. The same one who plays frisbee.

-Accidentally changing my blogger dashboard to Bulgarian.

AWESOME

-Playing Draw Something with Dad until eleven o'clock at night.

-The waiter at a resturant leaving the chives off my soup, because I ordered my salad without onions. Good thinkin'.

-A salted carmel cake pop. Super duper good.

-Covering notebooks in pictures, pretty tape, handkerchiefs, denim and gingham fabric.

-Finally, finally getting my room cleaned up and put back together and tweaking it just a bit for fall.

-My grandpa teaching me how to make a new smiley face on his phone. :~)

-Getting letters in the mail from pen-pals. Always awesome.

What are some awkward and awesome things from your week from your week?

hues of easter.

Easter was calm and quiet this year. I woke up just before six in the morning and then came the curling, primping, and the race against time to get out of the house to church for the sunrise service. The afternoon was spent at grandpa's house for lunch and some home videos. At home, I curled up in a chair with a blanket and a book and in the evening we dyed eggs.

How was your Easter?
