I will extol the LORD at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
My soul will boast in the LORD;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the LORD with me;
let us exalt his name together.
I sought the LORD and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.

PSALM 34:1-4

braided hair tutorial

This is a hairstyle I sort of made up one day when I needed my hair out of my face. Since then, I've done it several times. It's quick and easy. You can make it as messy or as neat as you like.

I thought you all might like to try it too, so I put this little tutorial together....

left to right

1. Start with hair down. I had left-over curls from Sunday morning. I've also tried this with damp hair and it works just as well.

2. Divide your hair into two sections, putting them over your shoulders.

3. & 4. Braid both sections.

5. Pull one braid directly over, across your the back of your head.

6. Loop it back over and pin it down.

7. & 8. Repeat steps five and six with the other braid.

9. You're done!
Happy Wednesday! xo.

a new chapter | haley jane

"Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it."

-C.S. Lewis

"I read once in a book that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but I've never been able to believe it. I don't believe a rose would smell as sweet if it was called a thistle or a skunk cabbage."

-L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

Here it is. Haley Jane is up and running and I am so excited to share it with you all. It was time for some "sprucing up" around here. And not just a new design. A new look, a new feel, and a new name. I think blog names are important. My own name seemed to be the obvious choice, because, well, it will always be relevant to this blog. Because there is no exact theme to it. It is a little sad to be saying good-bye to Chapter Thirteen., but I am oh-so-excited for this change.

I hope to "break the mold" as far as posts go, though it will be gradual. I'm looking forward to incorporating some new things (don't worry -- there will still be the same ol' things here, as well). I'm hoping to explore some more sorts of things I can put on here, and really just be better at documenting, being open and realistic.

I'm looking forward to this new chapter.

5 on 5: february

1. Watercolors are so pretty. | 2. A morning mocha. | 3. Writing outside on the porch. | 4. Whitey in black & white. | 5. Morning light through my bedroom window.

I can hardly believe it's February already -- and the fifth, at that. At the first of this month I made four goals for February. 1) drink more water, 2) write everyday, 3) take more photos, 4) read a couple classics. The drinking more water goal has been going pretty well. For writing everyday, well, I haven't everyday, but more than I normally have. As far as taking more photos goes -- my goal was to take photos not just for blog posts specifically. I have a ways to go on this one. And for reading a couple classics, we haven't been to the library yet, but I'm trying to whittle down the five books I'm reading to only two or so. Then I'll be ready for a new one.

Have any favorite classics? I'd love some recommendations!

Happy Tuesday! xo.
